Emily had strategic oversight of patient advocacy and government affairs for the preparation and successful launch AveXis’ gene therapy for Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) for the last 3 1/2 years. Emily focused her efforts on ensuring the patient voice is at the center of the organization from clinical trial planning, understanding unmet needs to inform educational efforts and co-creating materials to support commercialization. In addition, Emily has collaborated with advocacy partners drive earlier diagnosis for SMA and newborn screening efforts for SMA. Emily has worked in many roles in the biotechnology industry over 17 years, including specialty sales, product launches in rare diseases, leading medical affairs efforts, and patient advocacy. Emily holds a master’s degree in Public Health from University of Illinois at Chicago.
